CGC/Therapy Dog Prep Class

The American Kennel Club offers a certification open to all dogs (pure and mixed breed). The Canine Good Citizen certification is for those dogs that can perform all 10 of the CGC items listed below. This class is ideal for anyone who is thinking of dog therapy work with their dog! The CGC test will be conducted on the last day of class. Therapy Dog International and the Delta Society have their own testing procedures and policies; however, Therapy Dogs International (TDI) uses the AKC Canine Good Citizen test as a key component of its therapy dog assessment. TDI can be reached at www.tdi-dog.org. Students interested in pursuing therapy dog work will be directed to certified evaluators.
All dogs that pass will receive a certificate from the AKC

AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification requirements
Test 1: Accepting a friendly stranger
Test 2: Sitting politely for petting
Test 3: Appearance and grooming
Test 4: Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
Test 5: Walking through a crowd
Test 6: Sit and down on command and Staying in place
Test 7: Coming when called
Test 8: Reaction to another dog
Test 9: Reaction to distraction
Test 10: Supervised separation

Cancellation policy for all Happy Tails Obedience programs:
We depend on meeting our enrollment numbers to start each class, so your withdrawal may affect class schedules.
•If you withdraw prior to the start date and outside of the 36 hours prior to the scheduled start time, there is a $25 fee.
•If you withdraw from class within 36 hours of the scheduled start time, there is a $50 fee.
•There are no refunds after class begins.
Occasionally, we may need to postpone a class based on low enrollment, but it is unfair to do so on such short notice.
