Caution: This sport is addictive!
Flyball is a fast paced sport that is fun for both you and your dog. It’s a relay game involving 4 dogs and handlers per team. Each dog is required to jump over 4 hurdles, retrieve a ball from a spring loaded box and return over the 4 jumps. As one dog crosses over the start/finish line, the next dog is allowed to go. The winning team completes the race without any faults of dropped balls or “hot” crosses and with the fastest time.
This is a sport that all can enjoy! Catch the fever!
Intro to Flyball:
The entire game is broken down in to individual exercises to start. Lots of great skill building exercises – focus and attention, targeting, retrieve and recall. Learning the foundations of a “swimmers turn” on the flyball box and consecutive jumping skills.
Intermediate Flyball: Building upon the foundations learned in Intro, students start putting together the individual exercises. Working towards ball retrieval off the flyball box, racing recalls, and passing games. (this class should be repeated until the student is given permission to move up)
Advanced/Team Flyball: Students here will be working on perfecting their game and learning the finer details. How to pass another dog, what is the best position for “starting” your dog, learning to run in any of the four positions, etc.
